It is the Organisation’s policy that all of its workplaces are smoke-free and that you have the right to work in a smoke-free environment.

Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire workplace with no exceptions. This includes the Organisation’s vehicles.

The Organisation has made provisions for employees to smoke outside of the building, in the shelters provided.

Where areas have been designated, it is your responsibility to ensure that all cigarettes and cigarette ends are properly extinguished and the area is kept clean and tidy at all times.

Smoking will be restricted to official break times only. Designated times are one short break, no longer than 5 minutes in the morning, during your lunch break and then another short break of no longer than 5 minute break in the afternoon. These breaks must cause as little disruption as possible to the working day. Note: this is a benefit not an entitlement and the Organisation reserves the right at its discretion at any time to withdraw or amend this benefit, especially if this benefit is being abused or causes disruption to the workplace.

Failure to adhere to this policy will result in formal disciplinary action being taken against you, as set out in the Organisation’s Disciplinary Procedures.

You should be aware that enforcement authorities can issue penalties and fines if you are found guilty of smoking in a smoke-free place. You will be personally liable for any fine or fixed penalty imposed for non-compliance.
